Shawn Humphries has 34 years of experience as a physical therapist and health care manager. In these roles, he has always valued the opportunity to teach, coach, mentor, with a goal of helping staff and proteges become more successful.
His physical therapy career began in 1989 as a direct commission Naval officer, upon selection to the U.S. Army-Baylor University Physical Therapy Master’s Program. His Military career included 8 years on Active Duty, culminating with retirement for the Naval Reserve in 2010 with the rank of Commander. On Active Duty, CDR Humphries was stationed at Naval Hospitals San Diego and Camp Pendleton, with an 8 month assignment to Okinawa Japan. He served in various positions of clinical and administrative leadership. In San Diego, he trained in electrophysiologic testing (EMG/NCS), and at the time became one of fewer than 50 physical therapists in California licensed to perform electrodiagnostic diagnostic studies. CDR Humphries last Active Duty assignment was as Department Head, at Camp Pendleton, one of the busiest PT Clinics in the Navy at the time. Some accomplishments at Camp Pendleton include: a leadership role of a multi-disciplinary operational and clinical team responsible for the development and implementation of the School of Infantry’s S.M.A.R.T. (Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Therapy) Clinic. In 1995, this team’s efforts resulted in a 50% reduction in training injuries, an accelerated return to duty after injury. The SMART Clinic was responsible for 1200 patient visits per month. As a Naval Reserve Officer wore many hats, he became the Officer In Charge of medical detachments in Columbus, and Atlanta GA.
In 1997, Mr. Humphries accepted the position of Director of Rehabilitation at a 200 bed hospital in Columbus, GA. In Columbus, he became board certified recognized by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (1997), and Electroclinical Specialist (2014). It was also in Columbus that he met his future business partner and co-founder of Integrity Rehab Management, Dr. Rick McKibben PT, DSc, ECS. “Besides getting married, and having two wonderful children, one of the key milestones of my life was meeting and developing a friendship and partnership with Rick McKibben. From that partnership IRM was developed.
Besides my family, what I am most proud of is the success and growth of Integrity Rehab Management. This Company has been the platform where we have been able to care for thousands of patients while being the foundation of financial stability and professional growth for all the staff and families ultimately responsible for Company success.
Shawn shares a life partnership in marriage with the former Marisela Luengo, a retired Civil Engineer. They are ever proud and enjoy spending time with their two adult daughters, Kristen Humphries-Ramos, DVM and Nicole Humphries-Pyles, MD. More recently Shawn and Marisela have learned what is really meant by “it’s a different kind of love,” with the birth of their 1st granddaughter Sophia Ramos.
