How Fast Turnaround Diagnostic Testing Services Offer Timely Results for Workers’ Compensation Cases

Are you managing a worker’s compensation case for a client with persistent musculoskeletal and / or neurogenic pain? Perhaps they’ve been struggling with intense back pain since their injury, or maybe they suspect they developed carpal tunnel syndrome. Regardless, you need answers quickly–and that’s where Integrity Diagnostics’ fast turnaround diagnostic testing comes in.

At our Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Kentucky locations, we provide two types of fast turnaround diagnostic testing: EMG (electromyography) testing and NCS (nerve conduction studies). Both of these tests will help your client get to the root cause of their pain so you can develop a comprehensive and informed worker’s comp case.

Both of these tests are quick, easy, and require minimal preparation from your client beforehand. However, they can give us a wealth of data about your clients’ nerve and muscle function and help to diagnose specific conditions, including workplace injuries.

The Role of EMG/NCS Testing in Worker’s Compensation Cases

We know it’s important for you to know the extent of your client’s injury. Diagnostic testing allows for a more complete picture than what you might get from a doctor alone.

While EMG and NCS are two different tests, we typically perform them together to fully understand the patient’s condition. Both tests are able to locate, grade, and put a timeline on injuries of the peripheral nervous of the patient.

EMG testing measures the electrical activity of your muscles when they’re in use and at rest.

An NCS measures how quickly and efficiently your body’s electrical signals travel through your peripheral nervous system.

When used together, these tests help us determine if your client’s symptoms are the result of a peripheral nerve injury, allowing for a more accurate diagnosis. Some of the conditions these tests can help us identify include the following:

  • Repetitive use injuries
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Nerve impairments from herniated discs (i.e., sciatica)

What You and Your Client Can Expect from Fast Turnaround Diagnostic Testing at Integrity Diagnostics

We pride ourselves on providing accurate results with a quick turnaround. Getting started is easy: simply request a referral to our office. We’ll reach out to the client and schedule an appointment as soon as possible. We have several clinics across Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Kentucky, ensuring your client doesn’t have to wait more than a few weeks to get tested.

Both EMG and NCS require minimal preparation from the client. Your client should avoid using lotions or oils a few days before their test, as that can interfere with results. It’s also important for us to know if they have a pacemaker or similar device–while we can still safely perform the test, we may need to take some additional precautions.

The session will last between 30-90 minutes, depending on the areas we’re testing and whether or not the client is receiving both tests. If they are, we typically perform the NCS test first.

During an NCS test, the client will sit or lie comfortably while one of our diagnostic experts applies recording and stimulating electrodes to the patient’s body. We’ll then initiate a mild electric shock from the stimulating electrode while our machines measure the body’s response.

During an EMG test, our expert will apply an electrode to the affected muscle. We’ll then ask that your client contract and relax the muscle as we take the necessary measurements.

Your client may feel some discomfort during one or both of the tests. It’s typically brief and may consist of a tingling sensation.

Once we’ve performed the tests, we will provide our interpreted results to you and the referring physician as quickly as possible–usually within 24 hours. Our comprehensive reports will include the following information:

  • All raw measurements/data
  • Any physical examination findings
  • Narratives for both tests
  • Our interpretation of the exam

At Integrity Diagnostics, we are EMG/NCS experts. Why? Because it’s all we do! For that reason, we can provide you with fast, accurate results so you can prepare your client’s worker compensation claim and get them the help they need without delay.
